Obituary of Makarand Vasant Sovani

Makarand Sovani, a respected software engineer and a cherished husband, father, and son, passed away at his home in Basking Ridge, New Jersey, on Sunday morning, August 25, 2024. Born on May 25, 1969, in Jalna, India, Makarand grew up in Mumbai, where he nurtured a lifelong passion for Physics and Technology. He later earned a master’s degree in physics but chose a career in software development, finding his niche in 1993.

Makarand’s professional journey included significant roles at major firms such as Chase, Goldman Sachs, Lord Abbott, WebMD Inc., Unify Health, Mars Inc., and most recently, the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond. Despite battling cancer, he continued to work remotely, demonstrating his unyielding dedication and resilience.

Known for his humility, integrity, and strong principles, Makarand preferred to let his actions speak for themselves. He never spoke of his achievements or struggles, including his fight with cancer, believing strongly in self-reliance and the virtue of quiet support for others. His honesty was palpable, and his commitment to always telling the truth was profound.

Makarand’s passion for nature was evident through his photography, capturing serene landscapes that reflected his peaceful and thoughtful nature. He lived by core Hindu principles, embodying a life of service and humility.

Makarand leaves behind his loving wife of 29 years, Manasi (Neelam), and their son, Alankar. He is also survived by his sister, Mrinalini Damle, and mother, Varsha Moreshwar Sovani. The family invites friends and loved ones to gather and celebrate Makarand’s life on Sunday, September 29, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Higgins Home For Funerals, located at 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung, NJ.

Makarand Sovani will be remembered as a man who was as profound and complex as the software he developed yet as simple and beautiful as the photographs he took. His legacy of integrity, dedication, and quiet generosity remains a guiding light for all who knew him.
